St. Luke’s Hospital Foundation Announces New Board Member

St. Luke’s Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce that Rachel Ramsey has joined the Board of Trustees and will serve a three-year term.

Rachel Ramsey is a Polk County Native, born at St. Luke’s Hospital!

As a military wife, she spent 20 years living and traveling throughout the United States and numerous foreign countries. Rachel has two daughters, Christy, born in Texas and Beverly, born in England. Following her husband’s retirement, she and her family returned to Polk County.

During her career, Rachel has worked in the credit department for Montgomery Ward and JC Penney. She was also a manager for the American Embassy Shop in Taichung, Taiwan. Rachel was a customer service representative for Cumberland Bank and worked as a Consumer Loan Officer/New Business Development Officer for Northwestern Bank. After moving back to Polk County, Rachel was the Magistrate. Everyone may be most familiar with Rachel in her role as Executive Director of Steps to HOPE, Inc. from where she just retired.

Other affiliations, memberships and boards served include: NC Coalition Against DV, Region 1 Rep.; Board of /Directors, NC Council for Women; Western Regional Rep. to NC Coalition Against Domestic Violence; N.C. Governor’s Domestic Violence Commission; Member Isothermal Planning and Development Commission; Director, American Institute of Banking; Chairman, Polk County Commission; Polk County Mental Health Advisory Board; Polk County Partnership for Children;  Member/Secretary Rotary Club of Tryon; St. Luke’s Hospital Board of Trustees; Elder, Tryon Presbyterian Church.

Rachel has received many awards and recognitions during the course of her career including: Ambassador, North Carolina Order of the Long Leaf Pine; Foothills Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year; Polk County Mental Health Norman Boyer Service Provider of the Year; Recognition for Services to Polk County Citizens from Tryon Town Council and Polk County Commission.

Recently retired, Rachel devotes her time to traveling, reading, family and friends, cooking and inspiring her grandchildren.

The St. Luke’s Hospital Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 organization established in 1991 to support one of our community’s most valuable assets, St. Luke’s Hospital.  It is made up of citizens who have joined together to raise funds for new equipment, facility improvements, educational programs, and the Foundation’s endowment.
